   Well I guess you really wouldn't know for sure, BUT I do believe that if you have enough hope , love and positivity in your life I think that your gaurdian angel will appear and not evil.

   God's angels respond to His (God's) word and when we pray in Jesus name, and even if we speak God's word. Jesus even told us about angels:
   "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels" ? (Mat 26:53)
   Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?> Heb 1:14

   The key is vibration, coupled with your psychic "strong sense". In the former, the majority of our spirit guides and angels have a unique and extremely high vibration and, if clairsentience is your psychic strong sense, feeling their presence will be equally unique... and one can learn how to do that. If you are clairaudient, the concern would obviously be in identifying who you are actually communicating with. Similarly, ones who can "see" their angels in their mind's eye need to have a strategy to ensure the identity of whoever we are communicating with.
   
   In learning to work with oracle cards, I followed a suggestion by Rose Vanden Eynden (So You Want To Be A Medium). She claimed we are able to request a specific and identifiable signal from our angels and guides, before beginning any work with them, to identify them as the real deal.
   
   Last thing is establishing a sacred place for any communication, an area which you reserve  primarily for your prayer or spiritual work. One thing is certain, when it comes to guardian angels - they will never treat you with anything less than love and respect. They are your protector, not your judge. To break a connection, like breaking a spell, laugh loud and long. Joy is a high vibration energy that is not edible to lower vibrating entities.

   How to be sure evil does not come when you call for your guardian angel...Don't call for an angel.
   
   Pray directly to God instead. Ask for what ever help or support you need, and God will decide if an angel will be sent to help you.
   
   I believe the idea of a personal guardian angel is not Biblical.

   I agree with aspects answer, call for angels through God.
   
   I wrote a true story on how Angels saved my life however I know they were send from God.
   
   you can ask for help if you are not sure.
   
   If it seems like you have an Angel and they stay around and try to get a point across they are not Angelic/from God.
   
   If they seem to appear in your dream and tell you something over and over or something to do that doesnt seem right, then it isnt right. Ask our Holy spirit.
   
   Angels will not stay around, they will make their presence known for whatever the message is, they do not draw attention to themselves. Then they move on.
   
   Here is a prayer that I am sure most of us know.
   Angels of God
   My Guardian dears
   To whom Gods love commits me here
   Ever this day/night be by my side
   To guard and rule
   To light and Guide
   If they are not from The Lord they are of evil
   
   Our creator makes it very clear we are to serve/worship no one but him.
   you will be destroyed if so. (punished)
   God will send what help you need. He has send St. Teresa into my life also.
